VERO BEACH, September 28, 2026 – There is still time to roll up your sleeves and make a difference during United Way of Indian River County’s annual Day of Caring, taking place on Saturday, October 24.

Each year, hundreds of volunteers come together to complete hands-on projects for schools, nonprofits, and community organizations throughout Indian River County. Last year, more than 550 volunteers completed 51 projects and contributed more than 2,200 hours of service.

This year, volunteers can choose from projects ranging from landscaping and painting to gardening, organizing, campus beautification and assembling resources. No special skills are required for many projects. Volunteers can participate individually, with friends and family, or as part of a workplace, school, civic or community team.

“Day of caring is a wonderful reminder that meaningful change does not always require a huge commitment,” said Meredith Egan, CEO of United Way of Indian River County. “Sometimes it starts with one person deciding to show up for a few hours. When hundreds of people make that same choice, the impact is something we can all see and feel.”

The morning begins at 8:00 AM at the Vero Beach High School Citrus Bowl, where volunteers will enjoy breakfast and coffee, and take part in a warm-up and pep rally before heading to their project locations.

Projects begin promptly at 9:00 AM at locations throughout Indian River County.

“Some people will be painting. Some will be pulling weeds. Some will be building garden beds or preparing materials for students and families,” Egan said. “The projects may look different, but the purpose is the same: showing up for the organizations and people who make our community stronger every day.”
