United Way Calls on Local Organizations and Volunteers for 2026 Day of Caring
VERO BEACH, August 17, 2026 – United Way of Indian River County is calling on residents to roll up their sleeves for its annual Day of Caring, on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Volunteer registration opens today.
Each year, hundreds of volunteers come together to support schools and organizations. Last year, more than 550 volunteers completed 51 projects and contributed more than 2,200 hours of service across Indian River County.
“Day of Caring is a chance to see what happens when people come together with a shared purpose,” said Meredith Egan, CEO of United Way of Indian River County. “It is a few hours of your time, but the impact can last far beyond that morning. Whether you are an organization with a project that needs a team or a volunteer looking for a way to give back, there is a place for you at Day of Caring.”
United Way is seeking projects from local nonprofits, schools, churches, civic organizations, and community groups. Organizations do not need to be United Way funded partners to participate. Projects should be hands-on, safe for volunteers, and able to be completed in approximately four hours. Past projects have included painting, landscaping, organizing, facility improvements, assembling resources, and preparing spaces for the people organizations serve.
Project submissions are open through September 8. United Way provides logistical support and works with participating organizations to coordinate volunteer teams.
Volunteer registration is open to individuals, families, schools, businesses, civic groups, and organizations through October 16. Volunteers can choose from available projects and spend the morning making a difference in their community.
The day will begin with breakfast at 8:00 AM at Vero Beach High School’s Citrus Bowl, 1707 16th Street, Vero Beach. Following the kickoff, volunteers will head to their assigned project locations, with projects beginning promptly at 9:00 AM.
“Some projects may need a fresh coat of paint, some may need a little muscle, and others simply need a group of people willing to show up and help,” Egan said. “There is meaningful work to be done throughout our area, and when we work together, United is the Way.”
