Senior Resource Association Seeks Meals on Wheels Volunteers

Tuesday, July 21, 2026, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. – Senior Resource Association (SRA) is seeking volunteers to support its Meals on Wheels program, which provides home‑delivered meals and wellness checks to older adults throughout Indian River County. Summer months are critical, as many of our regular volunteers are away, leaving fewer hands to cover daily routes.

Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver meals between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, and, depending on the route, deliveries take can between 45 minutes to 2 hours. Volunteers choose the schedule that fits their availability — once a week, once a month, or multiple days per week.

“Some of our seniors spend most of their day without seeing another person. A volunteer’s visit can be the brightest moment they have,” says Karen Deigl, SRA President and CEO. “With less than two hours of someone’s time, we can make sure local seniors receive the nourishment and connection they deserve.”

To make volunteering simple and efficient, SRA provides:

• Pre‑mapped routes
• A user‑friendly smartphone app with turn‑by‑turn directions
• Hot and cold food storage bags
• Identification materials and vehicle magnets

All volunteers complete a background screening prior to service.

“The number of older adults needing meal support continues to grow,” Deigl adds. “We’re grateful for every volunteer who gives their time, and we welcome new volunteers who can help us ensure no senior is left waiting.”
