Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital Hosts Inaugural ‘Passport to Prevention’ Event Bringing Breast Health Education to the Community

SEBASTIAN, Fl (October 20, 2026) — Community members gathered at Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital on Oct. 17 for the hospital's inaugural Passport to Prevention event, held in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The free event offered attendees an opportunity to meet physicians and members of the breast imaging team, learn about local breast health services, tour the hospital's Breast Imaging Center and schedule future screening appointments. Guests also learned about services available through Orlando Health Cancer Institute and participated in a variety of wellness activities throughout the morning.

"Early detection remains one of the most powerful tools we have in the fight against breast cancer," said Dr. Joseph Bedway, a general surgeon at Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital who specializes in breast surgery. "Events like Passport to Prevention help connect people with the information, resources and screenings they need to take an active role in their health, while also emphasizing the importance of regular mammograms and timely follow-up care."

The event highlighted the importance of breast cancer awareness, early detection and preventive screenings while connecting community members with local healthcare resources and experts close to home.
This year's Passport to Prevention event embraced a Paris-themed experience, with French-inspired bites and refreshments as well as decorative touches incorporated throughout the lobby. Attendees also enjoyed complimentary mini facials as part of the event's wellness offerings and had the opportunity to create personalized floral bouquets at a do-it-yourself flower bar. Organizers said the "passport" concept is intended to grow each year, with future events exploring new destinations that will allow participants to add another stop to their prevention journey.
