Dear Rescue Friend,
As we welcome the Spring season and embrace new beginnings, I find myself humbled. Twenty years ago, H.A.L.O. was built on a young (some would say naive) girl's dream: that every life deserves a chance.
Since then that belief has grown into a lifesaving mission that has touched thousands of animals and families. As we look ahead, we are excited to share the launch of something new and deeply meaningful to us: our Foster-First Kitten Program. This program was created with one goal in mind - giving our tiniest, most vulnerable Rescues the very best start possible.
Instead of transitioning from foster homes into the shelter, kittens are now adopted directly from their foster homes, meaning they never have to spend a single night in the shelter. By keeping kittens in foster care until adoption, we significantly reduce the risk of infectious disease and parasites, which are more easily spread in shelter settings.
This program not only improves health outcomes, it also creates a smoother, more loving transition from foster care to permanent homes. The Foster-First Kitten Program keeps kittens safe, healthy, and happy while increasing successful adoptions and saving more lives. It’s a beautiful example of how innovation, compassion, and community come together to save lives.
As we celebrate 20 years of impact, we do so with eyes set on the future and we are excited to continue to evolve, improve, and find better ways to care for the animals who need us most.
Thank you for being part of our story, our growth, and our mission. The next chapter is just beginning, and we are honored to walk it with you.

| Boots came to H.A.L.O. under heartbreaking circumstances. He was surrendered alongside 10 other cats after his human was in a serious car accident, fell on hard times, and faced the unimaginable - losing her home and living out of her car, with no safe place for her beloved cats. When Boots first arrived, he was terrified. He wouldn’t let anyone touch him unless he was safely tucked inside a carrier. |

But thanks to patience, kindness, and a whole lot of love from his foster dad, Rob, Boots slowly began to realize he was safe. Over the course of about a week with lots of slow blinking at each other, Rob put his hand out and Boots hesitantly sniffed him. From that moment on, everything changed.
Now, while Boots still appreciates his privacy and takes things at his own pace, he comes out for pets and seeks affection. He especially loves back scratches and having the side of his face gently rubbed.Boots may need patience and understanding, but he has so much love to give.
His foster dad says “Boots is truly deep down a super lovable cat and deserves a good home.” All he needs is a chance. |

"Supporting H.A.L.O. and animal rescue each year isn’t just something we do, it’s who we are to our Core. We believe that every animal deserves a chance to be loved, in second chances, in healing what’s been hurt, and in standing up for the voiceless. When we give, we’re investing in hope, redemption, and the kind of love that changes lives…theirs and ours. We are proud to support such a great cause every year and hope to help in bigger ways in the future." - Bruce & Mandy McCullers |

At just 19 weeks old, Lulu was rushed to the ER after being attacked twice by another dog in her home.
She suffered from two broken legs, deep lacerations, and was unable to walk. H.A.L.O. stepped in immediately, but she faced unimaginable pain — multiple surgeries to repair her shattered elbow and broken tibia, splints, hospital stays, and months of rehabilitation. Throughout it all, Lulu’s spirit stayed strong. |

Complications followed, including necrosis at the bite wounds and a persistent bone infection that caused dangerous fevers. After seven long months of fighting for her, the difficult decision was made to amputate. Lulu is now a proud tripod.
Thanks to months of therapy and care, her front leg is functioning at nearly 90%, setting her up to thrive. Today, Lulu is doing just that - living her best life!
“Lulu is doing wonderful! She loves to take herself on little walks and has already enjoyed her very first doggie ice cream. She adores hanging out with her older doggie sister, though her cat brother is still a little iffy about the new addition. She’s even discovered a new love for the Florida Gators and the Yankees. She truly is a little flamingo angel!” - Lulu's Mom, Becky Temple |
