DID YOU KNOW? Stein holding—or Masskrugstemmen in German—became a popular part of Oktoberfest culture relatively recently, even though beer steins themselves have been around since the 14th century. The tradition of competitive stein holding as we know it today likely emerged in the late 20th century, especially as Oktoberfest celebrations spread internationally and organizers looked for fun, crowd-friendly contests rooted in Bavarian flair.
