Exciting news in the arts. Two 30-foot murals originally housed in the Vero Beach Community Center—The History of the Treasure Coast (1998) and The Habitats of Vero Beach (2012)—have been relocated to the second-floor foyer of Indian River County Administration Building A, where they will now be part of the Art in Public Places program administered by the Cultural Council of Indian River County. Created by members of the Vero Beach Art Club as a gift to the community, these collaborative works showcase both the region’s history and its diverse natural habitats, with all artists volunteering their time and the club covering the cost of materials. The first mural, designed by Dawn Mill, Merana Cadorette, and others, spans 8 feet high by 30 feet long, while the second, painted by Dawn Mill (Project Manager), Judy Burgarella, and Christine Thomas, also stretches across six panels of equal scale. After suffering storm damage from Hurricane Milton in 2024, the final panel of the Habitats mural is being repainted by Thomas and will be reinstalled once completed. Their new placement in the Administration Building provides a safe, prominent setting where residents, visitors, and schoolchildren can enjoy and learn from these cultural treasures as part of Indian River County’s centennial celebration.
