ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST AND STEWARD
REGISTER HERE!
After growing up in Brevard County along the lagoon, Nick Sanzone attended the University of Florida and graduated with a degree in Soil and Water Science in 2010. He worked on the lagoon as an eco tour narrator before being selected to intern with the Nature Conservancy at the Blowing Rocks preserve in Jupiter, Florida. He continued to intern through the Student Conservation Association with the National Parks in Jacksonville and in Biscayne National Park until 2013 when he started work with the Marine Resources Council. Then after three years with the MRC he went to work for the City of Satellite Beach as their first Environmental Programs Coordinator. After six and a half years he has left the City and is here today to discuss the health and history of the lagoon and role of stewardship in its return to health. Mr. Sanzone is an avid waterman and advocate for environmental science education, sitting on multiple boards in and beyond Brevard County to better serve the community.

Description
Learn the history of the lagoon, from how it was shaped over the last 10,000 years by natural systems, to the last 200 years of human development, to the last decade of restoration work. This presentation features the Samson's Island Submerged Lands Restoration Project, and it's associated clam, oyster and seagrass restoration. We all play a role in stewardship, and can improve our relationship with the environment by making small changes to how we see the lagoon as part of a larger system.
The seminar will end with a live Q&A session, but we also recommend that participants to please email any questions you might have that relate to this topic to caitlin@mrcirl.org.
This is a free event, but you must register to reserve your space at the Lagoon House (subject to cancellation) or to receive the Zoom link. The Zoom link will be in your Eventbrite confirmation email, under "Additional Information". We will be live streaming the presentation through the MRC's Facebook page and will be posting the recording to the MRC's YouTube page for future viewing!
