Date and Time
Tuesday Apr 2, 2024
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EDT
Location
LAGOON HOUSE
3275 DIXIE HWY NE, PALM BAY
Presented by Emily Robicheaux,
Lionfish Outreach Coordinator at
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
Lionfish are an invasive species to Florida waters wreaking havoc on the local reef ecosystems. Because they do not have a natural predator, their populations have been allowed to expand rapidly in Western Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico waters. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) started the Lionfish Program in 2014 to begin addressing these issues and has been facilitating education and removal efforts around the state since. The presentation will incorporate lionfish biology, history of lionfish's introduction and expansion, harvesting recommendations, and ways to get involved through FWC educational and removal programs.
The seminar will end with a live Q&A session, but we also recommend that participants to please email any questions you might have that relate to this topic to caitlin@mrcirl.org.
Given the limited seating in the Lagoon House, and an increased demand for in-person tickets, there is now a $5 in-person attendance fee. Please feel free to bring your own lunch. Coffee and cookies will be provided. Viewing Lagoon at Noon presentations via Zoom and Facebook Live continue to be free. We thank you for your continued support of our Lagoon at Noon Program.
When registering for online viewing, the Zoom link will be in your confirmation email. A recording of the presentation will be posted to the MRC's YouTube page for future viewing.
