MARINE RESOURCES COUNCIL | REMINDER TO REGISTER

Presented by Melissa M. Deinys, Researcher at
the University of Central Florida

January 6th, 2024 at 12:00 PM Eastern (US and Canada)

In recent years, mangrove health has been declining along the Floridian coastlines. Despite this concerning trend, there is a lack of information regarding fungal pathogens contributing to this decline. Hence, this study was conducted to evaluate the overall health of mangrove populations across the Floridian coastlines and to identify fungal pathogens associated with tree decline. This talk presents the first report of various fungal families impacting mangrove communities along the Floridian coastline in Red Mangroves. Through extensive surveys covering approximately 300 trees across the Floridian east coast, we identified several fungal species. This talk highlights the significance of understanding fungal dynamics in mangrove ecosystems and emphasizes the importance of continued monitoring and management efforts to preserve the ecological integrity of coastal mangrove habitats along the Floridian coastline.

Please note the day change, this month's presentation will be on the first Monday of the month, rather than the first Tuesday. Our schedule will return to normal in February.

The seminar will end with a live Q&A session, but we also recommend that participants please email any questions you might have that relate to this topic to honor@mrcirl.org.

Given the limited seating in the Lagoon House, and an increased demand for in-person tickets, there is now a $5 in-person attendance fee. Please feel free to bring your own lunch. Coffee and cookies will be provided.
Viewing Lagoon at Noon presentations via Zoom continues to be free. We thank you for your continued support of our Lagoon at Noon Program.

When registering for online viewing, the Zoom link will be in your confirmation email. A recording of the presentation will be posted to
MRC's YouTube page for future viewing.

Thank You!
